Sustainable Hop Merchants
Our Commitment to a Greener Future
As sustainable hop merchants, Charles Faram plays a unique role in the brewing industry. As a grower-owned company, Charles Faram maintains close connections with our growers and serves as a trusted partner for breweries.
Sustainability isn’t just about the environment—it also strengthens long-term business resilience for everyone involved. We take a proactive approach, staying prepared for future challenges and protecting the future of hop growing.
Our commitment to sustainability runs deep. The team actively collaborates with research programmes and institutions to develop climate-proofing strategies and sustainable solutions.
Beyond hops, we offer brewers a one-stop shop for essential ingredients and equipment. Since 1994, our inventory has significantly expanded to include malts, brewing aids, yeasts, purees, flavourings, sensory training kits, and lab equipment. All of these products are available in a single delivery with one invoice.

What are we doing to be sustainable hop merchants?
The sustainable hop merchant journey rocketed in 2013 with the installation of solar panels on our dispatch and storage warehouse. In 2023, we expanded these solar systems by adding additional panels to our cold store.
In February 2023, we took another step by investing in a cardboard and plastic baler. This upgrade helped our production team cut waste and boost recycling efforts by compressing excess packaging.
We also use PhD research on biochar to transform agricultural waste into a sustainable resource. By incorporating biochar into farming practices, we reduce waste, lower nitrogen fertiliser use, and promote healthier soils. These efforts support a more sustainable future for hop production.
