More Information About Barbe Rouge Hop Variety

The Flavour of Barbe Rouge Hop

Barbe Rouge hop is a vibrant aroma variety developed and grown in France. This hop offers bold, fruit-forward characteristics. It was bred from the variety Strisselspalt, aiming to give brewers a European-grown alternative to popular American aroma hops. As a result, the Barbe Rouge hop brings exciting flavour options to a wide range of beer styles.

Aroma and Flavour Profile of Barbe Rouge Hops

Barbe Rouge hops deliver a lively mix of Strawberry, Floral and Red Currant aromas on the rub, while it offers Red Fruit, Floral and Spicy flavours in the beer. These bright flavours work especially well in pale ales, IPAs, saisons, and wheat beers. With alpha acids typically ranging from 7% – 10%, Barbe Rouge offers a moderate bitterness that’s smooth and clean.

Brewing with Barbe Rouge

Barbe Rouge hops are best used in late additions, whirlpool stages, or dry hopping. Their expressive fruit character shines brightest when not exposed to prolonged boiling. Additionally, they pair well with other modern aroma hops like Citra®, Mosaic®, and El Dorado®. This makes the Barbe Rouge hop an excellent choice for brewers looking to create layered, fruit-forward profiles.

Why Barbe Rouge?

Barbe Rouge hops are increasingly favoured by brewers seeking European-grown hops with modern flair. They offer the intensity of American aroma varieties without overpowering bitterness. Furthermore, their unique flavour profile appeals to both traditional and experimental brewers. Whether you’re crafting a juicy IPA or a delicate Blonde Ale, Barbe Rouge delivers fresh, exciting results.

In conclusion, the Barbe Rouge hop is a bold, fruity, and versatile addition to the brewer’s toolkit. Its bright flavours and smooth bitterness help create standout beers that appeal to modern palates.
