More Information About Calypso ™ Hop Variety

Calypso ™ Hops

Calypso hops are an American variety known for their aromatic intensity and broad brewing potential. Developed by Hopsteiner, these hops offer a unique profile that stands out in both aroma and taste. Whether used as a single variety or part of a blend, Calypso hops deliver bright and engaging character.

Calypso Hop Aroma Characteristics

When rubbed, Calypso hops reveal a burst of pear, apple, and peach. These sweet and subtle fruit notes create an inviting aroma that makes them ideal for dry hopping and late boil additions. The clean, juicy scent lifts a beer’s aromatic profile without overwhelming it.

Calypso Hops in the Brew

In the finished beer, Calypso hops contribute soft tropical fruit, balanced stonefruit, and juicy white fruit characteristics. These elements give the beer depth and complexity while maintaining a smooth, refreshing finish.

Calypso hops are particularly suited to IPAs, pale ales, and fruit-forward saisons. They also pair well with New England-style recipes, where soft fruit profiles are desirable. Their fruity nature allows brewers to layer hops without introducing bitterness.

Brewing With Calypso Hop Versatility

Thanks to moderate alpha acids, Calypso hops work in both aroma and bittering roles. They provide a clean bitterness when added early, but truly shine in whirlpool or dry hop stages. Calypso pairs well with citrus or tropical-forward hops, enhancing both aroma and taste.

In summary, Calypso hops offer complexity through tropical, stonefruit, and white fruit notes. With aromas of pear, peach, and apple, Calypso hops provide balance and brightness. Whether used subtly or in bold measures, they help create juicy, expressive beers with modern appeal.
