Weyermann® Almanac Beer Recipe of the Month: Doppelbock:

Doppelbock (bier)

West Coast American India Pale Ale (IPA) is an adaptation of the original English IPA. The early, style-setting versions of this ale were brewed along the West Coast of the United States. While the classic British version of the IPA often had an original gravity of perhaps 1.070 or greater, American versions tend to be just a tad less
strong. In addition, New World IPAs tend to be very aggressively hopped, nowadays often with in-your-face bittering values from citrus or resinous, even catty, Pacific Northwest varieties. In fact, the proliferation of American, IPA-suitable hop varieties has gone hand-in-hand with the increasing dominance of IPAs in the American craft brew sector. Thus, it is not unusual in the New World to find half the tap lines in a typical beer bar or brewpub hooked up to different substyles of IPA.
