YAKIMA CHIEF HOPS

YAKIMA CHIEF HOPS

At Charles Faram, we offer two types of Yakima Chief Hops® – Hop Extracts, each available in various flavour varieties to suit the specific needs of your brew. To help you understand the differences between these products, please refer to our brewing guide and specification sheets below.

YCH HYPERBOOST™

· HIGH CONCENTRATION OF AROMA-SPECIFIC HOP OILS · REDUCES VEGETAL LOAD - INCREASING BEER YIELD

HyperBoost™ is a concentrated hop oil (40-70%) from Yakima Chief Hops® designed for whirlpool, fermentation, and dry-hop additions. It amplifies hop aromatics and increases yield, making it ideal for enhancing hop aroma wherever pellets are typically used, including cold-side applications. Made from single-hop varieties, HyperBoost™ delivers variety-specific aroma boosts to your finished beer.

Available in the following varieties

Citra® · Idaho7® · Mosaic® · Sabro® · Simcoe® · Krush™

YCH DYNABOOST™

· STANDARDISED TO 20% OIL CONTENT · REDUCES WORT-SUCKING TRUB · IMPROVES EFFICIENCY AND FLAVOUR IMPACT

Yakima Chief Hops® crafted DynaBoost™ as a hassle-free whirlpool addition that amplifies aromatics through a concentration of wort-soluble compounds. Because of its solubility, you experience less solid matter impacting the waste stream and more wort heading to your fermenter. In fact, some brewers report up to a 5% increase in wort yield.

Available in the following varieties

Centennial · Chinook · Citra® · Ekuanot® · Idaho 7® · Mosaic® · Sabro® · Simcoe®

HOW TO BREW WITH YAKIMA CHIEF HOPS EXTRACTS

HYPERBOOST™

HyperBoost™ is designed to easily pour into your fermenter as a cold side addition, adding an intense saturation of hop flavour to your finished beer. Most brewers choose to use HyperBoost™ as a fermenter addition, but it can also be added to the whirlpool.

DYNABOOST™

DynaBoost™ is a versatile companion in the brewhouse, adding a rich and dynamic hop character to your beer. This exceptionally flowable oil extract delivers distinct hop characteristics to your brew, thanks to its high concentration of beer-soluble compounds. As a result of its solubility, brewers may notice an increase in wort yield, as it helps reduce trub.

Post-Boil/Whirlpool:

For whirlpool use, brewers can replace up to 100% of pellets with HyperBoost™. We suggest replacing T-90 pellet additions in the whirlpool at a rate of 50:1 by weight (20 g of HyperBoost™ to replace 1 kg T-90). Your brewery might choose to use more or less depending on beer style or overall goal.

Post-Boil/Whirlpool:

DynaBoost™ was specifically designed to boost aromatics as a whirlpool addition. The wort soluble oil extract will deliver variety-specific aroma attributes and minimise trub, potentially increasing your whirlpool yield.

Fermentation:

HyperBoost™ can be used as an active or post-fermentation hop addition. Incorporate HyperBoost™ anywhere in the process you would typically use pellets.

Fermentation:

DynaBoost™ requires contact time with hot liquid to incorporate into wort or fermenting beer. Therefore, brewers who choose to use DynaBoost™ in the fermenter often employ a ‘dip hop’ method. In this method, a small portion of the wort is transferred to the fermenter while still hot (170-200°F), along with DynaBoost™. Afterward, the hot wort and DynaBoost™ mixture is allowed to stand briefly before the main knockout at fermentation temperature. Once this step is complete, yeast can then be pitched.

Dry hopping:

For dry hop additions, Yakima Chief Hops® recommends using HyperBoost™ for 25-50% of the addition, while adding T-90 or Cryo® pellets for the remaining hop charge. We suggest starting with a replacement rate of 100:1 HyperBoost™ to T-90 pellets by weight (for example, 10g of HyperBoost™ in place of 1kg of T-90) and adjusting to 125:1 (8g of HyperBoost™ in place of 1kg of T-90) based on desired outcomes.

KETTLE:

DynaBoost™ carries variety-specific alpha acid content and can be used both as an early bittering addition, or a late aroma addition in the kettle.

HYPERBOOST™

HyperBoost™ is designed to easily pour in your fermenter as a cold side addition, adding an intense saturation of hop flavour to your finished beer. Most brewers choose to use HyperBoost as a fermenter addition, but it can also be added to the whirlpool. Using HyperBoost in place of traditional pellets can increase finished beer yield.

HOW TO STORE AND SHELF LIFE

HYPERBOOST™

HyperBoost™ should be stored in a sealed aluminium bottle container in near-freezing conditions, preferably between -1°C and 5°C. It remains completely fluid even below freezing. HyperBoost™ will remain stable in closed containers for 2 years

DYNABOOST™

DynaBoost™ should be stored below 25°C (77°F), though as with all hop products, aromatic quality will remain more stable at cooler
temperatures, as low as -1°C (30°F). DynaBoost™ will remain shelf stable in closed containers for 2 years.

HOW MUCH DO I USE (DOSING RATES)

HYPERBOOST™

Yakima Chief Hops® recommends replacing up to 100% of the Whirlpool or 25% to 50% of the Dry Hop additions with HyperBoost™ and leaving up to 50% of the addition as T-90 Hop Pellets and/or Cryo Hops® Brand Pellets.

DYNABOOST™

A typical dosage rate of 0.2 to 0.5g per litre of wort is recommended, depending on the brewer’s discretion. When replacing T-90 pellets with DynaBoost™, a typical dosage would be a 10:1 dilution. This means that for every kilogram of T-90 pellets, you should add 100g of DynaBoost™. However, unless whirlpool hops contribute the majority of the bitterness in the beer, the difference in bitterness pickup during whirlpooling is likely negligible. This is due to lower isomerisation rates as temperatures decrease in the whirlpool. On the other hand, if the beer’s character is largely defined by bitterness generated in the whirlpool, you can adjust the bitterness using CO2 extract, ISO, or another hop product.
