More Information About Summitâ„¢ Hop Variety

Summitâ„¢ Hops: A High-Alpha American Hop with Bold Citrus Punch

Summitâ„¢ hops are a powerful American variety developed by the American Dwarf Hop Association and released in the early 2000s. Known for their high alpha acid content and intense aroma, Summitâ„¢ hops are widely used in bold, hop-forward beer styles. Their compact cone structure and strong agronomic performance make them a reliable choice for growers and brewers alike.

Brewing Characteristics of Summitâ„¢ Hops

Summitâ„¢ hops deliver a vibrant aroma profile dominated by tangerine, orange zest, and grapefruit. Earthy undertones and hints of spice add depth and complexity. With alpha acids ranging from 16% to 19%, Summitâ„¢ hops are primarily used for bittering, though they also contribute significant aroma when used in dry hopping.

These hops work well in IPAs, double IPAs, and American-style pale ales. When added late in the boil or during fermentation, Summitâ„¢ hops bring out their full citrus character. Their bold bitterness supports strong malt backbones and enhances overall balance.

Why Brewers Choose Summitâ„¢ Hops

Brewers choose Summit™ hops for their efficiency and flavor impact. Their high alpha acid content allows for lower hop volumes while maintaining strong bitterness. This makes them cost-effective and ideal for large-scale brewing. Additionally, Summit™ hops blend well with other citrus-forward varieties like Amarillo®, Citra®, or Centennial.

In the field, Summitâ„¢ hops are known for their disease resistance and consistent yields. They thrive in the Pacific Northwest and are cultivated with sustainability in mind. For brewers, this means a dependable supply and consistent quality year after year.
