More Information About Pahto® Hop Variety

Pahto® Hops: Powerfully Bitter, Perfectly Clean

Pahto® hops are a high-alpha hop variety developed by Hopsteiner, designed to deliver clean bitterness and excellent brewing performance. Known for their smooth bittering qualities, Pahto® hops are ideal for brewers seeking efficiency without sacrificing flavor. Their name comes from a Native American word for Mount Adams, reflecting their Pacific Northwest origin.

The Aroma and Flavor of Pahto® Hops

Although Pahto® hops are primarily used for bittering, they offer subtle aroma notes. Expect mild herbal and earthy tones with a touch of pine. These characteristics make Pahto® hops suitable for a wide range of beer styles, especially hop-forward brews like IPAs and imperial ales.

Brewing Advantages of Pahto® Hops

One major advantage of Pahto® hops is their high alpha acid content, often exceeding 18%. This allows brewers to use smaller quantities while achieving strong bitterness. Additionally, Pahto® hops produce minimal cohumulone, resulting in a smoother, cleaner finish. Because of this, they are often preferred in large-scale brewing operations.

Growing and Sustainability of Pahto® Hops

Pahto® hops are grown in the Yakima Valley, benefiting from ideal climate and soil conditions. They are bred for disease resistance and yield consistency, making them a sustainable choice for hop growers. This reliability supports long-term planning for brewers and suppliers alike.
