Hop History: The family tree of British Hop Varieties

The family tree of British hop varieties, all details of this hop history is courtesy of Dr Peter Darby. The story of British hops is one of tradition, innovation, and exceptional brewing quality.

The British Hop Variety Family Tree traces the rich heritage and evolution of hop breeding, from classic heritage varieties almost to the latest cutting-edge cultivars.

It’s clear to see how legendary hops like Fuggle and Goldings have influenced generations of brewing. With current breeding programmes we’re shaping the future with exciting new varieties such as Jester®, Olicana®, and Harlequin®.

At Charles Faram, we have a lot of hop history! We’ve been supplying the brewing industry with the finest hops since 1865, when we sold only three (Golding, Fuggle and Sovereign). Our dedication to hop research and breeding ensures that we continue to bring you the best British-grown hops for exceptional beer.
